Serving Solo Women +40
Hi there,
Ae you wondering about having fertility treatment?
Or perhaps you’re just getting started - but don’t really know where to begin.
If so - then read on.
In June 2024, I was in your position.
I’d just turned 43 and getting my low AMH hit me hard. Waiting and hoping and waiting for Mr Right to arrive. He didn’t. (Perhaps he will in future….)
I knew it was time to get going - and quickly.
But I panicked.
So I made all the common, avoidable mistakes:
Headed straight for my friend’s clinic (in Spain)
Did little to no research beyond exploring this clinic
Ignored the red flags about both the doctor and clinic
Paid for treatment before seeking guidance from anyone
Ignored my intuition - again and again
It’s not just me.
Six months of cruising fertility forums tells me other women are making the same, avoidable mistakes.
But why?
I see these big obstacles:
Very few spaces for women who are solo and over 40
An absence of clear, reliable information about how to get started
A lack of specific fertility literature (most is for couples, and solo women are tagged on as an after-thought)
Fertility clinics withholding information (yes, really) and not setting expectations
So do you want to start - or simply explore - your fertility treatment, without the stress, overwhelm and risk of making the same mistakes?
Then this corner of the internet is for you.
Welcome to the SM40 movement: where independent women over 40 pursue solo motherhood.

Who am I?
I don’t like the cold.
So sunny Goa, India is my winter home. I arrived when I was 39, just before the whole world went into lockdown. And 2.5 years later, I finally left! I’ve been hiding in Goa every winter ever since.
The blue skies, coconut palms and salt water soothe body and mind.
In summer, I swap the tropics for the rolling green of the South Downs, on the south coast of the UK.
Throughout 15 years in London, I wrote for some of the biggest technology companies in the world. Latterly, I set up as a communications consultant.
Writing and design is in my blood.
As soon as I was old enough to hold a pen, I wrote short stories. But while my family designs machines and computer programmes, I design in words.
Now I write about fertility and reproductive technologies, and share insights from my own fertility journey to support yours.
Stories for you
Let me introduce you to the world of assisted fertility.
This is the lucrative world of private medical care. It’s a rather different beast to the cuddly neighbour GP I’ve been used to in the UK; and minor operations performed by the much-loved NHS.
Starting out with fertility treatment has been wild - wildly strange.
And I’m not going to sugarcoat things. You’re too intelligent for that. I hope my honest insights help you make informed choices.
There is so much to navigate when you’re starting out. And no guide to help you get off to a good start. So I created Solo Fertility 40s, in the hope you find the right information you need, at the right time.
My insights are from cycles undertaken in Spain and Greece in 2024 - combined with additional research, focused on:
getting started with fertility treatment
navigating the multi-billion dollar fertility industry
choosing fertility treatment in Europe (Fertility Clinics Abroad can assist with this) or in the UK (Fertility Mapper can advise)
demystifying aspects of the IVF process (because there are tough, expensive decisions to make)
understanding your biology +40 (because you deserve a space dedicated to you, as the powerful solo woman that you are)
Your tribe
I’m speaking your language.
Sharing raw and real insights as I learn them.

The ‘Emily Listens’ Call
Need someone to phone you after your egg collection?
Book your Emily Listens Call.
I launched this because of Emily, an amazing woman who spoke with me for over an hour after my first egg collection in Spain. I was alone, in my hotel room. (And feeling very overwhelmed after a bad experience.) Prior to this call, we had never spoken on the phone before.
Say hello….
